Ștefan Iancu – A Journey from Screen to Stage and Beyond

Born on December 26th, 1997, in Bucharest, Ștefan Iancu stepped into the world of cinema at just four years old. His early career saw him sharing the screen with acclaimed actors such as Oscar Isaac in PU-239 and Abraham F. Murray in The Day of the Siege 1683.

From there, his career flourished in both Romanian and international productions, with notable roles in Amintiri din Epoca de Aur (2009), which premiered at Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival, Nașa (2011, dir. Virgil Nicolaescu & Jesus del Cerro), and Kira Kiralina (2014, dir. Dan Pița), where he portrayed the lead role of Dragomir.

His talent extended to the theatre stage, making his debut at Metropolis Theatre under Victor Ioan Frunză’s direction, even before finishing high school. In 2017, he was admitted to the National University of Theatre and Film “I.L. Caragiale”, and just a year later, he won the Gopo Award for Best Young Hope for his lead role in Un Pas în Urma Serafimilor (2017, dir. Daniel Sandu). His performance secured his place in the ProTV series Vlad (2018-2022), where he captivated audiences for four seasons.

His international breakthrough came with the role of Felix in the British series Killing Eve (2020), earning him the “Best Newcomer” award at the Subtitle Talent Festival. On the theatre front, Ștefan continued to impress, performing at the National Theatre in Bucharest and the Toma Caragiu Theatre in Ploiești, where he is currently a full-time actor.

He also starred in Tudor Giurgiu’s movie Libertate (2023) and will soon appear in several highly anticipated productions, including Hoții de SubiecteCursaCombinații și RelațiiGray House, and DPNDT. Now, he is part of the cast of “Ana – Mi-ai fost scrisă în ADN,” alongside his brother, Bogdan Iancu, and Karina Jianu.

In the much-anticipated movie Hoții de Subiecte (The Subject Thieves), directed by Tudor Petremarin, Ștefan takes on the role of Alex, a teenager striving to fund his dream of building his own recording studio. The story follows four high school students who start selling SAT subjects online to achieve their aspirations, only to face the harsh consequences of their actions.

However, for one special day, Ștefan will exchange the spotlight of film and theatre for our TEDx stage, where he will offer a fresh perspective on education, ambition, and personal growth. At TEDx Questfield Intl College Youth, he will delve into the skills young people need to navigate an ever-changing world, drawing from his own journey of perseverance, creativity, and adaptability.
